North Carolina Board Certified Social Security Disability Benefits Specialist Vance Jennings explains how doctors' claims affect disability claims. If a doctor supports a disability claim, will the claim be approved? The answer is no, just because a doctor supports a disability claim does not mean it will be approved. The doctor’s letter must be able to provide substantial evidence of the claimant's injuries. The doctor’s letter must include any handicaps or limits the claimant is experiencing. For example, if the claimant cannot reach or lift a heavy object, the doctor must record this in their letter. Even after a doctor has listed the claimant's disabilities, they still may not be approved for disability.
