Park Your 2007-08 Honda Fit Outside to Avoid Vehicle Fires
Posted on Jul 10, 2013
Almost 700,000 Honda owners are being instructed to park their vehicles away from buildings and outside of private home garages and public parking garages. Manufacturers have discovered a defect in the driver's side doors of 2007-2008 Honda Fit and Jazz models that may cause a vehicle fire.
If this sounds familiar, it is because Honda issued the same recall a few years ago when the defect was initially announced. However, officials have determined the initial efforts in correcting the defect were not sufficient. If you already had your vehicle inspected and repaired a few years ago, your vehicle may still be at risk of causing a fire! What causes the Honda Fit vehicle fires? Switches in the driver's side door have reportedly overheated and caused fires after they were exposed to water, which happens in the common use of an vehicle if a window is left open in the rain.
Every 2007-2008 Honda Fit is affected by this recall. Manufacturers plan to immediately replace switches that show damage, however any switches that show no signs of overheating will be replaced at a later time when additional parts are available.
