The new Veterans Affairs Health Care Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina now offers an outpatient center that is more than 250,000 SF. The facility opened just before the end of 2015 and had a special ribbon cutting ceremony just after the New Year.
The number of veterans in the greater Fayetteville area receiving care at the existing facilities was more than 66,000. These numbers had outpaced the care facilities available. The new center is expected to improve outpatient care for approximately 38,000 veterans, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Outpatient surgery and medical procedures offered at the new site include eye, dermatology, and gastrointestinal surgeries. More than a handful of surgical specialties are available as well. All of these treatments are in addition to primary care services that are also available on-site.
Aside from medical care, the new facility boasts walking trails, a healing garden, and a Veterans Memorial.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, the previous existing VA facility in Fayetteville had "longest wait times in the nation for veterans seeking health care" in 2014. The new VA Health Care Center will hopefully help minimize wait times and provide timely care for the area's retired military service members.
