A small town and an elementary school are in mourning today after a fatal North Carolina bus accident took the lives of a family of four and injured two others.
According to Star News Online, the deadly school bus accident occurred on Camp Branch Road in Brunswick County near the intersection of NC 211. North Carolina police who are working to reconstruct the bus accident say that it appears as if the car carrying the family crossed the centerline of the road and slammed into the bus head-on. It is unclear why the driver lost control of the car, but police believe speed may have been a factor in the accident.
Killed in the crash were 31-year-old Josh Williams, his wife, 30-year-old Brandy Williams, and their sons, 9-year-old Joshua Williams and 6-year-old Gavin Williams. The family lived in Ash, North Carolina.
The school bus, which serves Waccamaw Elementary and the Brunswick County School District, was carrying only one student. Both the student and the bus driver, Connie Russ, suffered minor injuries in the crash. It is unclear how long Russ has been a bus driver for the district or whether she has any history of traffic violations or accidents. A crisis response team will be on hand at the school to help students and faculty deal with the tragedy.
The school bus accident, which took place at around four in the afternoon on Tuesday, March 8, is under investigation.
