Baby Recliner Manufacturer Sued After 5 Deaths
Posted on Dec 07, 2012
North Carolina defective product attorneys at Brent Adams & Associates received an update about a 2010 recall of baby recliners from Baby Matters, LLC. Baby Matters, a manufacturer of infant sleep products, is operated under Nap Nanny.
In late 2012, the government’s Consumer Product Safety Commission is filing a lawsuit against Baby Matters, alleging defects in the designs in two of Nap Nanny’s infant recliners. The defects leave babies at risk for fatal injuries. The CPSC has received over five dozen incident reports of babies almost falling out of the recliner. Nap Nanny announced its impending closure by the end of 2012, citing rising insurance costs and regulations.
In July 2010, Nap Nanny issued a recall of 30,000 baby recliners, offering a coupon for product owners to purchase an updated model with more detailed use instructions. Before the recall, one death was reported. After the recall, four more infants died due to injuries from use of the infant recliners.
