5 Felony Charges Against Alamance Rest Home Operator
Posted on May 05, 2016
A woman who operated a rest home facility in Alamance County was charged with five felonies for patient abuse and neglect.
Complaints were received about D&M Family Care Home and it was closed shortly after the complaints were reported.
After a search warrant was executed, the records, medical devices, medications, and cell phones belonging to the owner were examined.
The investigation started after a complaint was made in early 2015 against one of D&M Family Care Home's workers. The worker was charged with a felony for abuse of a 61-year-old patient. This immediately prompted a search warrant and suspension of the Burlington facility's license, according to local news reports.
A jury found the facility operator guilty of abuse and neglect in late 2015.
The charges imply that the operator permitted improper medication administration and prevented access to medical devices, among other matters.
