The husband of a slain woman from Wake County has been named as the defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit, two years after his wife was found dead from the personal injuries she had suffered in a savage beating inside their home in Raleigh.
On November 3, 2006, 29-year-old Michelle Young, who was pregnant with her second child, was found lying face down inside her home by her sister. Her then-2-year-old daughter Cassidy was at her side, but unharmed.
The lawsuit was filed on October 29 on behalf of Linda Fisher, Young’s mother, and sealed until November 4. It alleges that Jason Young is liable for the death of Michelle young and asks that he be barred from collection of any insurance benefits on his deceased wife’s life.
The suit also seeks compensation for the “horror, pain, and suffering” the fatal assault caused in addition to funeral expenses and the monetary value of the Youngs’ daughter’s loss of her mother.
The order from a judge that the complaint be sealed came because of the belief that media attention around the case would alert Jason Young before he could be properly served, allowing him to evade that.
Jason Young informed Wake County sheriff’s investigators that he was out of town on business at the time of his wife’s death and he has never been named as a suspect or person of interest in the case.
According to search warrant affidavits, he talked with authorities on the day Michelle Young’s body was discovered and gave fingerprints under court order, but has been generally uncooperative with the investigation.
