Wreck Kills One, Injures Two on S Smithfield Rd in Knightdale, NC

Knightdale, NC (August 16, 2026) – A woman was killed, and two passengers were injured in a single-vehicle crash on South Smithfield Road near Dunn Road in Knightdale on Sunday, August 16. The collision occurred around 4:00 a.m.

Initial reports indicated that the vehicle was traveling north on South Smithfield Road at a high rate of speed when it left the right side of the roadway. It then struck a ditch and a private driveway culvert. After striking the culvert, the vehicle overturned, hit a tree, and came to rest off the roadway.

The driver died at the crash site. Emergency crews transported two passengers to WakeMed Hospital with injuries. Further details about their injuries have not been released.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate what led to the fatal wreck.
