Police in Durham are investigating a hit-and-run accident in which a woman suffered fatal personal injuries on Interstate 40 East near Exit 276.


Shortly after 6 a.m. on February 10, officers were dispatched to respond to a report of a deer in the road. Upon the officers’ arrival at the scene, they discovered the body of a woman on the interstate.


The victim appeared to have been involved in another wreck prior to being struck by a vehicle.


All lanes of I-40 East were reopened shortly after 11 a.m. The accident remains under investigation.
