Authorities in Orange County are investigating a crash that occurred on the morning of Thanksgiving in which two women were killed and a man suffered personal injuries.
Shortly after 10 a.m. on November 26, authorities were dispatched to Guess Road at the intersection with N.C. 57 in the Caldwell community.
According to authorities, the victims are from Georgia.
Highway Patrol officers and locals are familiar with the Guess Road intersection because one road has a stop sign and the other has a flashing light.
Authorities say they believe the women who died may not have known the road well due to being from out of state.
The Highway Patrol said that the Jeep Cherokee the two women were riding in ran the stop sign and was t-boned by a pick-up truck. The SUV overturned and landed in a ditch. The female driver and female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck suffered serious injuries. He has been identified as 23-year-old Timothy James Whitfield.
According to the local fire chief, changes need to be made at the intersection. He said three to five fatal crashes occur at the intersection each year, but no changes have been made.
The identities of the two women killed in the crash have yet to be released.
