Two elementary school students in Harnett County received hospital transport for the personal injuries they suffered on March 15 when the bus they were passengers on was rear-ended on Old U.S. 421, according to the school system.

The children, from Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School, were passengers on bus No. 179. According to spokeswoman Patricia Harmon-Lewis, the accident took place less than a mile from the school.

Harmon-Lewis said the bus had just left the school and was nearly full of students. The two that were taken to the hospital complained of neck pain. They were taken to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn.

Harmon-Lewis said the bus sustained minor damage and the remaining students were transferred to another bus to be taken home.

The crash remains under investigation.
