North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a pair of traffic accidents involving fatal personal injuries that occurred minutes apart on the morning of September 24 in Holly Springs, according to authorities.
The first accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Yates Mill Pond Road near Tryon Road, according to NCHP spokesman Sgt. Jorge Brewer. In that accident, 53-year-old Raleigh resident Byron Lee King was northbound on a motorcycle on Yates Mill Pond Road when the bike hit a deer.
King was ejected from the vehicle, which veered out of control and overturned, according to Brewer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Approximately 45 minutes later, shortly after 6:30 a.m., Brewer said the NCHP responded to another single-vehicle accident on Avent Ferry Road, near New Hill-Holleman Road.
Troopers say 46-year-old Holly Springs resident James Lewis Hendrick was southbound on Avent Ferry Road in a 2000 Honda Accord when the car ran off the road to the right and collided with a tree.
Hendrick was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have not determined a cause, but say speed was not a factor.
