Police in Holly Springs say that a 1-year-old boy suffered fatal personal injuries on the afternoon of April 18 when he was struck by an all-terrain vehicle driven by his father in the family’s back yard.
The child received transport to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about four hours later, according to a town spokesman, Mark Andrews. The boy was originally taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh and then airlifted to Duke.
The accident took place around 12:30 p.m. at the family’s home. According to witnesses, the child was struck after darting in front of the vehicle. He fell and struck his head on concrete.
