Authorities are searching for the driver of a truck that overturned and rolled down an embankment in Sanford early on the morning of May 29, causing three passengers to suffer fatal personal injuries.
Upon their arrival shortly before 1:30 a.m., Sanford police discovered two men lying on the ground outside the truck and another inside. Two were pronounced dead at the scene. The third had a faint pulse, but was later pronounced dead at Central Carolina Hospital, according to a police report.
Police say a witness said he spotted someone crawling out of the truck before staggering away. Police searched the area, which was near Jefferson Davis Highway and Douglas Drive, but were unable to locate the person.
The three deceased men were identified by police as Sanford residents Edwin Perez Hernandez, Claudia Baudillo Hernandez, and Fermin Patrocino Perez, all of the same address. The report indicates that the driver was possibly Hugo Alfredo Hernandez, also of the same address.
The Nissan truck is registered to Santos Labor Solutions out of Yadkinville, according to the report.
