Teacher Arrested For Workers' Comp Fraud

A reading teacher from an elementary school in central New York has been accused of receiving nearly $53,000 in benefits from worker’s compensation to which she was not entitled.

According to the Insurance Department of New York, 57-year-old Utica, New York resident Mary Racich fraudulently received $52,983 in benefits from workers’ comp while employed as a teacher for the Utica City School District.

Investigators allege that between October 2004 and December 2007, Racich received the money after claiming to be unable to work due to an allergic reaction she had suffered during her employment as a teacher at the Marcy Correctional Facility in 1997.
