According to authorities, Trooper Michael Davidson was parked on the left shoulder of I-40 east when an eastbound car veered left to avoid a collision with another vehicle and rear-ended the patrol car.
Both vehicles came to rest in the median. Davidson and the other driver received transport to Wake Med with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Davidson underwent treatment and was released.
The other driver’s name and the extent of their injuries have not been released by authorities.
