Smithfield Accident Claims Life

A sister was killed and another was injured on Tuesday in an accident on Interstate 95 South near mile marker 93 in Smithfield.

Angelina Overton, 18, was operating a motor vehicle, with her sister, Jaclyn McDonald, 25. They were traveling from their home in Woodbridge, Va., to visit family in Georgia.

Overton ran off the road to the left, hitting rumble sticks. She over-corrected and crashed into a tree. Overton died at the scene of the accident.

McDonald was transported to WakeMed to be treated for her injuries.

Both sisters were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol nor speed were contributing factors.
