A portion of Interstate 85 in North Charlotte had to be closed for several hours after a 3 a.m. crash on April 17 in which several people suffered personal injuries.
The accident took place in the southbound lanes of I-85 near West Sugar Creek Road. Traffic had to be re-routed in order for the accident to be cleared.
Troopers are still investigating exactly what took place, but it appears several people were injured in the accident.
Witnesses said it began with a collision between two dark sport utility vehicles and a four-door sedan. The sedan then ran up an embankment where the driver fled the scene. Another vehicle then struck one of the SUVs, which was still in the road.
The identities and conditions of the people involved in the accident were not immediately made available.
