On October 9, a woman from Rose Hill died of the personal injuries she suffered in a single-vehicle crash.
According to a spokeswoman from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 24-year-old Vanessa Renee Townsend died in a crash shortly before 3 a.m. on Moores Bridge Road, approximately seven miles northwest of Garland.
According to the accident report filed by Trooper J.L. Murphy, Townsend was northbound when she lost control of the 1998 Honda she was driving. The car ran off the road to the right, hit a culvert, and went airborne. Upon landing, the car overturned and struck a tree.
The report says that Townsend was traveling at an approximate speed of 70 mph in a 55 mph zone and was not wearing her seat belt.
