A weekend crash involving a drunken driver resulted in a Charlotte woman suffering fatal personal injuries.
Police said that on October 17, 25-year-old Amanda Marie George was crossing North Tryon Street after a NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway when she was struck by a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Matthews resident Travis Moore.
George’s mother, Billie George, said that she was killed instantly.
An estimated 800 people gathered at Valley Community Church in Weldon for a memorial service for George.
George graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 2004 and earned a culinary arts degree from Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte.
Moore was charged with driving while impaired and an investigation is ongoing to determine if he will face further charges.
