Raeford Woman Killed In Crash

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a Raeford woman suffered fatal personal injuries on the morning of April 24 after the vehicle she was driving ran off U.S. 401 near the Scotland County line and collided with a pine tree.

Trooper D.R. Clark said that 78-year-old Evalyn Marie Halstead was northeast bound on U.S 401 shortly before 9:30 a.m. when the 2001 Saturn she was driving crossed the center line.

Clark said that the Saturn traveled off the road and struck a small tree in front of a house before colliding with a pine tree.

Clark said that Halstead was the only occupant of the vehicle and was wearing her seat belt.
