Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run on I-40 in Raleigh, NC

Raleigh, NC (July 16, 2026) – A driver struck and killed a pedestrian at about 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, near the Interstate 440 on-ramp to westbound Interstate 40.

Authorities reported that the driver left without stopping and remained at large. Police have not released the pedestrian’s name or age. They also have not provided a description of the driver or vehicle involved.

Emergency units assisted along the roadway as officers closed several westbound lanes. Officers remained near the Cary Towne Boulevard exit around 3:30 a.m., and the highway reopened around 6:20 a.m.

The Raleigh Police Department⁠ continues to investigate the wreck and asks anyone with information to come forward.
