Parents Killed in Wreck on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh, NC

Raleigh, NC (July 7, 2026) – A husband and wife died on Monday night, July 6, from injuries they suffered in a crash days earlier near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The wreck happened on Saturday afternoon, July 4, around 3 p.m. at Glenwood Avenue and Lumley Road near the I-540 ramp. Emergency crews responded to the scene after the crash involving a Fast Park shuttle bus and a Nissan Altima. Authorities said the impact caused the shuttle bus to roll over.

Investigators said the shuttle bus was traveling west on Lumley Road toward the airport and had the right of way. A Nissan Altima traveling south from the Glenwood Avenue ramp reportedly ran a red light and struck the shuttle bus. The force of the collision caused the shuttle bus to overturn.

Officials identified the victims as 48-year-old Scott Christofferson and 44-year-old Jennifer Christofferson. Their child was also riding on the shuttle bus and suffered injuries in the crash. The child remains hospitalized.

The Nissan driver, 70-year-old Barry Hayes, was also injured in the crash. Hayes now faces charges in connection with the collision.

The Raleigh Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the wreck.
