A woman from Onslow County was charged on June 15 in connection to an automobile accident last year in which a Jacksonville man suffered fatal personal injuries.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol charged 24-year-old Heather N. Trejo-Aikens with felony death by motor vehicle in the November 7 death of 24-year-old Jason Kirby Rochelle.
The bond for Trejo-Aikens was set at $50,000. Her first court appearance was scheduled for June 16.
On the day of the accident, Rochelle was approximately half a mile from his home when his 1972 International truck was struck head-on by Trejo-Aikens’ 2006 Honda Civic. The NCHP says that Trejo-Aikens was intoxicated and driving at a rate of 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. She crossed left of center before the collision.
Rochelle was killed upon impact. Trejo-Aikens suffered serious injuries in the crash and received air transport to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Neither driver was wearing a seat belt. The NCHP says Rochelle was one of 24 people killed in Onslow wrecks in 2009.
