An Alexander County crash on February 27 resulted in a man from Taylorsville suffering fatal personal injuries.
According to Trooper R.V. McGee of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 70-year-old Arthur Leroy Smith was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry when he pulled into the path of a Ford Explorer on N.C. 16. He was pronounced dead at the scene. McGee said that it was likely that he died upon impact.
Smith was northbound out of the N.C. 16 South Superette parking lot at approximately 6:45 p.m. The Explorer, which was heading south, struck the Camry on the driver’s side door.
The crash took place approximately six miles south of Taylorsville.
