Police in High Point are investigating a crash in which one person died and four others, including two children suffered personal injuries. The accident took place on Westchester Drive near Burton Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. on June 30.
According to Lt. Steve Myers, a car was exiting the parking lot of a shopping center and turned onto Westchester when it collided with a minivan, which overturned. Investigators say the van’s driver, Thomasville resident Talia Oxendine, was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three others from the van, including 28-year-old Tyrell Scott, 9-year-old Tyrell Scott, and 11-year-old Rhianna Swinney, were taken to the hospital by emergency workers.
The driver of the car, 77-year-old Dainese Hazzard, received hospital transport. Her husband, 79-year-old Albert Hazzard, was a passenger in her vehicle but was uninjured.
Myers said that all four of the injured were taken to High Point Regional Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
