On April 3, a 62-year-old woman from Whiteville suffered fatal personal injuries in a three-vehicle crash near Tabor City.


According to Columbus County Assistant Coroner William Hannah, Betty Adams was killed when the Chevrolet Monte Carlo she was riding in collided with a Lexus on U.S. 701 at around 11 a.m. Her husband, Earl Hammonds, received ambulance transport to Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina.


Several people in the Lexus received ambulance transport to Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville.


A third vehicle was involved in the collision, but it only appeared to have sustained minor damage and the occupants were apparently not injured.


The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
