One Dead, One Injured After Crash on I-540 in Wake Co., NC

Wake County, NC (June 22, 2026) – On Saturday morning, June 20, one person died and another was injured in a two-car collision on Interstate 540 at the Neuse River Bridge in Wake County.

According to reports, the fatal wreck happened in the eastbound lanes of I-54. Investigators said two vehicles were involved, and one of them went over a guardrail during the sequence of events.

The person who lost their life was not publicly identified. Even though the injured victim required hospital transportation, their condition was not released.

Emergency units were called to the roadway, and eastbound lanes remained closed for several hours before reopening. Additional information about the accident had not been made public as of this report.

Investigators are still working to determine the factors that led to this roadway tragedy.
