According to New Jersey state police, a trooper received personal injuries while aiding a man out of his truck after a crash in Allamuchy Township, New Jersey.

According to Sgt. Stephen Jones, Trooper Cesar Garces drove into a rest area after a pick-up slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer on May 8 at approximately 2 a.m.

According to Jones, Garces used his flashlight to break the pick-up truck’s window for the driver to be able to exit. In the process, he sliced his wrist, severing the artery.

Both Garces and Paul Villano, the driver, had to receive air transport to Morristown Memorial Hospital where Garces underwent surgery and was released. Villano was charged with driving while intoxicated as a result of the accident.
