Nash Deputy Injured in Accident


A one-vehicle accident involving an on-duty deputy occurred Wednesday in Nash County.


Deputy Charles Baker was en-route to assist Deputy Ray Lynch on Driver Road in Middlesex where shots had been fired.


Baker lost control of his patrol car on NC Highway 97 near NC Highway 581 south of Spring Hope.


According to Sheriff Dick Jenkins, Baker's patrol car hit a utility pole, splitting it in half.


Deputy Baker was being treated at Nash General Hospital. His condition was unavailable.


A K-9 in the patrol car was reportedly unharmed.


Sheriff Jenkins reported Deputy Lynch was at home, after suffering a bite wound and an injury to his shoulder with suspects involved in the call.
