According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a man from Maxton died of the personal injuries he suffered when his car ran off N.C. 710 near Pembroke, struck a tree, and overturned.
According to Trooper DeWayne Hunt, 19-year-old Ozmer Lee Oxendine III was southbound in a 2004 Lincoln when he lost control of his vehicle shortly after 4:30 a.m. According to Hunt’s report, the vehicle exited the road, collided with a tree, and overturned.
Hunt’s report said that Oxendine was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He received transport to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
Hunt said that the vehicle’s speed was estimated to have been 70 mph in a 55 mph at the time of the crash and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
