Police in Winston-Salem are searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle that witnesses say struck a man who was crossing the street in a motorized wheelchair, causing him to suffer fatal personal injuries.

According to a report from Greensboro’s the News & Record, 57-year-old Ronald Lee Watson was discovered lying on an onramp to U.S. 52 in Winston-Salem on June 11.

Witnesses told police that the silver Chevrolet SUC briefly stopped before continuing to travel along the highway.

Officials say that Watson was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
