Lance Inc. has issued a recall of packages of Tom’s Barbecue Potato Chips because of a potential risk of personal injury due to a possible contamination with salmonella, an organism that can cause young children and others with weakened immune systems to suffer serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The recall affects Tom’s Barbecue Potato Chips with expiration dates through July 16, 2010. According to the Charlotte-based company, no illnesses have been reported so far.

The potato chips under recall come in 1-once, 2.25-ounce, and 8.5-ounce flexible packages. They were sold in retail stores across the U.S.
