Impaired Driver in Stolen SUV Causes Two Crashes in Raleigh, NC

Raleigh, NC (June 25, 2026) – An impaired driver in a stolen SUV caused two wrecks in Raleigh on Thursday morning, June 25, after running a red light and later fleeing in a bystander’s pickup truck.

The first crash happened at Ten-Ten Road and Old Stage Road. Authorities say the driver of a black SUV ran a red light and hit a silver Lexus sedan. After the crash, the SUV left the road and ended up in a nearby treeline.

Emergency units responded to the scene. They believe the driver was impaired.

After the first crash, the driver jumped into a bystander’s pickup truck and sped off. Witnesses say he screamed while forcing his way into the truck.

Authorities report that the driver drove about 10 miles in the stolen pickup before reaching Morgan Street near downtown Raleigh. There, he hit at least two more vehicles before the pickup flipped onto its side.

The driver had minor injuries and went to the hospital for treatment. The silver Lexus was damaged in the first crash. The vehicles hit near Morgan Street had major damage.

At the time of this report, officials had not released more details about other injuries. Charges against the driver were still pending.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating both crashes.
