Hit-and Run Victims in NC: Find the Driver

A fatal NC car accident in Sampson County was caused by a hit-and-run driver in mid-March. One driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The man arrested, Tedrick Buie, lost control of his car near Roseboro, and then hit another car before rolling down an embankment. Buie fled the scene and left his vehicle behind. The other driver suffered minor injuries and left the scene of the accident also because the collision had injured a passenger in the car. The passenger did not survive.

Victims of hit-and-run drivers often have to place a claim with their own insurance company in order to cover the costs of damage and medical treatment of injuries. Here are some tips to find a hit-and-run driver in NC:

• Gather witness information. If anyone else saw the accident take place, they may have seen the other driver, the make and model of the vehicle, or their license plate number.

• Check the scene for evidence. In the NC hit-and-run case above, the at-fault driver left the vehicle behind. If the car was registered to him it makes it easy for authorities to find the driver.

• Check security cameras. If your hit-and-run accident took place near a retail center there is a strong chance a security camera could have picked up the make and model of the vehicle.

• Collision shops. If authorities do learn the year, make, model and color of the vehicle that caused your injuries they can alert auto body shops so that when the guilty driver comes in to get their vehicle repaired the collision shop workers can alert police.
