An 80-year-old man received air transport to UNC Hospital for the personal injuries he suffered in a single-vehicle crash on NC 87 in Graham.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the man was southbound on the highway at about 3 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the road and struck several mailboxes. He overcorrected, traveling across the road and off the other side where the vehicle overturned twice before finally coming to rest in some trees.
The man was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill with unknown injuries. The investigating trooper reported that the man was conscious and talking as he was being loaded on the stretcher.
The man’s identity has not yet been released by the Highway Patrol.
