Garner, NC – Van Overturns, Lanes Closed After Two-Vehicle Crash on WB I-40

Garner, NC (April 5, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash on Sunday, April 5, involving an overturned van shut down all westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near mile marker 305 near Garner.

The crash was reported just before 3:30 p.m., just west of the U.S. 70 exit. The incident involved a white van and at least one other vehicle. The van overturned as a result of the collision.

Two ambulances responded to the scene. Paramedics evaluated those involved on site before determining whether hospital transport was necessary. The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.

All westbound lanes of I-40 were closed following the crash. Traffic backed up well beyond U.S. 70, with delays also reported on the ramp connecting U.S. 70 to I-40. Officials estimated the scene would be cleared by approximately 6:20 p.m.

The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
