Police said that on March 28, charges were filed against a Fayetteville man in connection to a wreck near Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on March 17 in which one person was killed and two suffered personal injuries.


Police charged 23-year-old Curtis Cahoon with misdemeanor death by vehicle and running a red light.


According to police, the GMC van Cahoon was driving collided with a Ford pickup truck at the intersection of Village Drive and Owen Drive. The impact caused the Ford to overturn and collide with a Chevrolet Suburban.


The Ford's driver, 86-year-old Red Springs resident Herman Douglas, died in the collision. Cahoon and 27-year-old Fayetteville resident Venus Taumanupepe, the driver of the Chevrolet, sustained minor injuries.
