The North Carolina Highway Patrol says that a young man has died of the personal injuries he suffered in a single vehicle accident in Brunswick County on July 14. State troopers responded to the accident on U.S. 74 just west of Leland around 1 a.m.
According to the NCHP, 21-year-old Toby Ray O’Neal Jr. lost control of the Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving and went airborne while traveling at an estimated speed of 75 mph. He struck several large trees during the accident and died at the scene.
Troopers believe speed and alcohol to have been factors in the accident.
