Elderly Bus Driver Causes Accident

Wilmington police charged Otis Hames with failure to yield the right of way yesterday after he caused an accident along Kerr Avenue.

Ten students were treated at  hospital for possible injuries after the accident.

The accident is under investigation.

Many parents were concerned over the age of the bus driver. New Hanover shool administrators stated that age was not a factor in hiring.

Hames, 80, was recertified by the state in 2005. To receive certification, the bus driver must pass vision, hearing and medical tests.
