On the afternoon of March 31, a 15-year-old girl suffered personal injuries when she was struck by a car moments after leaving a school bus on U.S. 421 in Clinton, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. approximately a mile south of the intersection with Christmas Tree Road, according to the accident report filed by Trooper Jason Weissinger.
The bus had stopped in the southbound lane to drop of 15-year-old Dunn resident Mary Ashley Baggett when a southbound Buick driven by 68-year-old Newton Grove resident John Charles McLamb attempted to avoid colliding with the bus and ran off the road to the right.
At the time, Baggett had just left the bus. She was struck by McLamb’s vehicle, which continued traveling until it collided with a fence.
Baggett received transport to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. Her condition was not immediately made available.
