An employee of Duke University who suffered personal injuries in a September 26 moped accident has now died of those injuries.

According to a statement from Duke officials given on September 29, 26-year-old Saber Benson suffered critical injuries on the night of September 26 when he collided with an iron gate on Union Drive in Durham while operating a moped. He subsequently died of those injuries.

Aaron Graves, associate vice president for campus safety and security, said that police are investigating whether Benson was attempting to get through the gate as it was closing.

Benson, a Chapel Hill resident, was a contract worker at The Loop, a restaurant on Duke’s campus.
