The driver who suffered fatal personal injuries in an April 17 accident in Durham was identified on April 23 by police as Carrboro resident Prodiguois Santuyo Villa.

At around 1:45 a.m., Villa was southbound in a sport utility vehicle between the Morreene Road and N.C. 751 exits on U.S. 15-501 when he lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road to the left, hit a guardrail, and overturned, coming to rest on top of the guardrail.

A passenger in Villa’s SUV, 27-year-old Chapel Hill resident Fernando Palomares Meudor, was taken to the hospital and released after undergoing treatment for his injuries.

Investigators say alcohol is believed to have been a factor.
