Officials said that on the afternoon of December 20, a 5-year-oldboy playing with his neighbor’s dog sustained personal injuries when the dog bit one of his fingers off. First responders located the severed digit and the boy received air transport to a hospital in Houston, Texas, where doctors were to attempt to reattach the finger.
The incident took place in Bacliff, Texas shortly before 5:30 p.m. The boy was playing with the dog, believed to be a Labrador, when it bit the ring finger off of his right hand, according to Bacliff Fire Chief James Westinghausen.
Westinghausen said that the finger was located and put on ice while the child was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston by helicopter. Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo said that the dog was taken by Galveston County Animal Control.
