Blast At Fort Bragg Kills Civilian
According to officials at Fort Bragg a civilian was killed in an explosion Friday.
Ronnie Blue, 47, of Hamlet was scavenging for scrap metal when he stepped on a round and it exploded.
Another man, whose name was not released, was also injured. The explosion occurred in an area that overlooks the range where soldiers practice firing artillery, tank shells and smaller weapons.
The men were employed by the Army.
The post is home to the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and Special Operations Command.
Fort Bragg officials are investigating.
Foprt Bragg officials are saying Ronnie Blue and another man ignored the large warning signs and drove onto an impact zone Friday to scavenge scrap metal.
