AIG, the insurance giant which recently received an $85 million bailout from the federal government, has announced that it has reached an $18 million settlement in a personal injury claim filed by the father of a young man who suffered brain damage and resulting speech and movement impairment after he was hit by a truck.

The family will immediately receive $6 million in the settlement and another $6 million will be invested for future costs. Another $6 million is tentatively provided for attorney’s fees, but judgment on that is pending.
