Accident Involving Bread Truck and UPS Truck
An accident involving two tractor-trailers closed both sides of I-40 last night.
According to a report by N.C. State Troopers, a UPS truck was behind a bread truck that was traveling slower in the far right lane of I-40 West. Steven Pavel, 49, of Fayetteville attempted to swerve to the left, but hit the rear of the bread truck. The UPS truck then ran off the road, struck the guardrail in the median and caught fire.
Pavel was transported to Duke University Medical Center.
William Silver, 60, of Rocky Mount was driving the bread truck.
Pavel was charged with failing to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a vehicle.
Silver was cited for improper equipment because the rear tail lights of the bread truck were not working.
