A 7-year-old boy is in Pitt Memorial Hospital recovering from the personal injuries he suffered when he was attacked by a German Shepherd owned by a family member.
According to Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins, the child, De’Ante Bloodworth, was handling the dog when it turned on him and bit him on the head, causing a six- to eight-inch gash.
Authorities say Bloodworth required air transport to Pitt County Memorial. Atkins says he could be released soon.
According to Atkins, the boy’s grandfather fatally shot the dog after the attack, which could complicate the investigation on whether or not it was rabid.
