A 15-month-old child in Eden required stitches after suffering personal injuries from being bitten by a dog on July 28.
The incident was reported to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office by the child’s mother, 37-year-old Lisa Lee George. The child was at the home of its grandmother when the incident occurred.
According to information released by the sheriff’s office, the dog was on a chain, but was able to reach far enough to bite the child’s shoulder, jaw, and nose areas. The child received treatment at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
The owner of the dog, 42-year-old Michael Darwood Smith, resides with the victim’s grandmother. He was cited for failure to have his dog vaccinated.
The dog was taken by sheriff’s deputies to the Reidsville Veterinary Hospital to be placed in rabies quarantine.
