One Union County teen is dead and four others are injured after a one-vehicle rollover traffic accident in North Carolina on Monday, January 23.
According to North Carolina news reports, five teens were traveling along Monroe-Weddington Road near Antioch Church Road in Weddington when the driver of the pickup truck lost control. The vehicle ran off of the road and rolled several times.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that 17-year-old Riley Layman of Matthews was thrown from the vehicle, which then rolled on top of him. He died at the scene of the NC truck accident.
The driver of the car, 17-year-old Robert Wayne Cook III, and two backseat passengers, 15-year-old Emily Aran Leonard and 15-year-old Julia Kelly, were also thrown from the pickup truck and suffered serious injuries. The only teen wearing a seat belt, 16-year-old Marisa Nicole Marchese of Indian Trail, was treated for minor injuries. All four surviving teens were treated at CMC-Main.
Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.
The North Carolina traffic accident attorneys at Brent Adams & Associates send their condolences to the family and loved ones of Riley Layman – and wish for swift, complete recoveries for the other pickup truck accident victims.
